Cloud computing is the availability of computing services remotely through the internet by using a web browser. But the question is that when these services are started first? Who invented the cloud computing concept? And what is the future of cloud computing? Following is a brief history of cloud computing.
The early history of cloud computing
In the year 1950, Mainframe computers were used by organizations to process their data. This computer was very expensive and large in size to meet with the solution the concept of time-sharing introduced. This concept is used to access a mainframe computer by many users.
In the year 1960, the concept of time-sharing was popularized. Large vendors like IBM and DEC used this concept. Later on in the year 1970 the large platforms like Multics (on GE hardware), Cambridge CTSS, and the earliest UNIX ports (on DEC hardware) used the concept of full-time sharing. They used mainframe as their data center in time-sharing.
In the year 1961, John MacCharty (who is also known as the founder of artificial intelligence ) said his golden words in a speech at MIT that one day we will be able to sell computer resources like water and electricity. Later one the term is modified and the system was updated with the needs.
Cloud computing in the 1990s
Finally, the networking industry introduced the term “Network Cloud” or “Cloud” in the early 1990s. Professor Ramnath Chellappa of Emory University defined Cloud Computing in the year1997, as the new “computing paradigm, where the boundaries of computing will be determined by economic rationale, rather than technical limits alone.”They used the cloud symbol to represent the cloud center. In 1999 pioneer is another example of a cloud that is developed by Salesforce(An American cloud base service provider company).
Cloud computing in the 2000s
In 2002 Amazon first time started amazon web base retail services. In the year August 2006, Amazon introduced its Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and created subsidiary Amazon Web Services. Also in April 2008, Google App Engine was released by Google. The major success in Cloud computing started with the release of SaaS in 2009, as Web 2.0 , That time Google and some other companies started to offer browser-based enterprise applications, through cloud services like as Google Apps, which is known as G Suite now.
Cloud computing in the 2010s
After the year 2010, the trend of cloud computing became famous some major companies invest in this field. Microsoft Azure is Microsoft’s public cloud base service provider. It was released by Microsoft in February 2010 which was announced in October 2008. NASA and Rackspace Hosting launched an open-source cloud-software initiative known as OpenStack. IBM started the IBM Smart cloud framework service in 2011. Oracle cloud is announced in 2012. Oracle Cloud is Oracle’s cloud base service provider. Google compute engine is released in the year 2013. The investment of these major companies in the cloud field brought major changes in the field. Microsoft Azure used Linux in its servers according to a report.
Future of Cloud Computing
Cloud computing has a bright future because many major companies provide cloud services. Nowadays cloud services are used by businesses and organizations as their private cloud. People also have access to cloud as they pay for services and the term is known as the public cloud. People are playing online games these are hosted on cloud servers. Developers are hosting their websites on clouds. It is easy to develop deploy and test the applications on powerful cloud servers. These services will be updated in the near future and the upcoming 10 years will bring mega changes in the cloud field.
